Torbay Steam Fair

posted in: Events | 2

As a child I spent many happy days visiting Steam Fairs with my dad, who was a real enthusiast & as a result I have a real fondness for anything to do with steam engines …… I love the smell, the sound and the gentle warmth that comes with them, as well as the almost hypnotic rocking motion of an engine idling over or working a piece of machinery – I also remember rushing to be part of ‘Musical Oildrums’ whenever I visited Bishop’s Castle Rally in Shropshire – a rather mad game involving engines, runners & yes, you’ve probably guessed it, oildrums…….. I have a particular soft spot for the old Showman’s Engines with their bright colours, with the favourite from my youth being ‘Goliath’, a wonderful character who was beautifully restored in the early 70s after having fallen into rack & ruin after years at Alton Towers.

Anyway that’s enough of my memories, but hopefully it goes without saying that I am looking forward to joining other traders in the Craft Tent at this summer’s Torbay Steam Fair over the first weekend in August. This will be my first visit to the Fair and I’ll find it hard not to be distracted by everything on show, but will just keep my fingers crossed for a nice weekend & perhaps just the chance for a quick stroll……..

Hi again, we’ve decided to rather attend the Cotehel Event we noticed you will be exhibiting at. Just so that you do not expect us. Many thanks, Heidi
